The Red Fort in Agra

Slightly out of sequence but I forgot to mention The Red Fort in Agra. As forts go it’s offers a reasonable couple of hours of entertainment although it’s massive footfall is probably linked to the fact that visitors to the Taj Mahal usually have a half day free.

The AI tells me…

Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a massive 16th-century red-sandstone fortress built by Emperor Akbar. Later rulers, including Shah Jahan, added elegant palaces of marble and intricate carvings. Highlights include the Jahangir Palace, Diwan-i-Am, and the Musamman Burj, where Shah Jahan was imprisoned with a view of the Taj Mahal. The fort’s thick walls, defensive gates, and inner courtyards reflect both military strength and Mughal grandeur.

It also offers good views (through the smog) of the Taj Mahal.
