On a tour of the sites of Jaipur (outside the city) ended on a high when we were taken here. I say it is off the tourist track because it’s not prominent in any of the guidebooks and there was hardly anyone there. But very impressive it is and we enjoyed the quiet.
Gaitor ki Chhatriyan, near Jaipur’s Nahargarh Fort, is a royal cremation ground for the Maharajas of Jaipur. It features beautifully carved marble cenotaphs (chhatris) adorned with intricate Rajasthani carvings and domes. The most elaborate monument is dedicated to Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur’s founder. The peaceful setting offers fine examples of Rajput architecture and views of the city.
