Jaswant Thada

On the hill near the fortress overlooking the old town of Jodhpur lies Jaswant Thada. We decided to tuck tuck there and walk back. The tuck tuck ride was more than we bargained for (see previous post). The walk back was similar to the walk back from the fort the previous day. All a bit edgy and dog poo for our liking. Whereas the walk back from the fort had the encounter of a dead rat, there was none of that on the decent from Jaswant Thada. The rats were alive on this route. But don’t let put you off. Jaswant Thada is magnificent and well worth the effort. A little information from our friends in AI….

Jaswant Thada, near Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, is a beautiful white marble cenotaph built in 1899 in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Often called the “Taj Mahal of Marwar,” it features intricate carvings, delicate lattice work, and peaceful gardens overlooking a lake. The site serves as the cremation ground for Marwar’s royal family and offers serene views of the fort and city.
