Following the first 3 immodiums of the holiday it was delightful to jump in a car for 6 hours. Ever the seasoned tourist we were careful to check if the car has AC beforehand. The good news was that indeed it did have AC. The bad news was that there were no seat belts. We were assured this was going to be fine. Perhaps we should all have had a trip to the temple before we set off. The other thing we didn’t enquire about was the quality of the fan belt. Should have done really because it snapped about halfway to Udaipur. Luckily we came to a halt about a hundred yards from what you might call a ‘downmarket’ service station so we ate biscuits for 90 minutes whilst doing The Times Jumbo Crossword on the iPad and watching a cow eat cardboard from the bins. Soon the cow was shooed back onto the motorway where it belonged and after 90 mins we were back on the road. From the moment the fan belt was fixed the AC stopped working so the final few hours with all windows open. Udaipur by teatime!
